Due to popular interest, Nadya Markin would like to organize a weekly seminar on the hot new area in information and coding theory: Network Coding. The aim of the seminar series is to gain acquaintance with the area (so no prior knowledge is required), work through the literature and investigate open problems. An organizational meeting will take place this week. Those who are interested in participating please bring a copy of an article of interest.
Suggested time: Thursday at 3 at the CASL.

April 16 – 22 2007: Workshop in Coding and Cryptography (WCC 2007) at INRIA was attended by Pat Fitzpatrick (CSI), Mark Flanagan (CSI), Marcus Greferath (CSI), Nayda Markin (CSI) and Carl Bracken (CSI).

Dr. Anna Johnston (CSI) is teaching a three week course at Sutton Park school on Cryptography. The course will run on Wednesday afternoons from March 14 2007.

The first issue of a new journal: Advances in Mathematics of Communictions has been published. This journal is jointly published by the American Institute of Mathematical Sciences and Shandong University (PRC). The Editor in Chief is Dr. Marcus Greferath (CSI) and additionally Prof. Patrick Fitzerpatrick (CSI) and Dr. Eimer Byrne (CSI) are on the editorial board.

Augusto Jun Devegili (Unicamp University) has returned to Brazil after spending 6 months at DCU with Mike Scott (CSI). Augusto was working on efficient implementations of extension field arithmetic as required in pairing-based cryptography
