September 3-4 2007: Laura Hitt (CSI), Anna Johnston (CSI), Cathy McFadden (CSI), Richard Moloney (CSI), Gerard Murphy (CSI), John Sheekey (CSI), Vitaly Skachek (CSI), Alan Stears (CSI) and Yejun Zou (CSI) attended the Tutorial on Elliptic and Hyperelliptic Curve Cryptography given by Dr. Tanja Lange in Dublin Ireland. Mike Scott (CSI) was one of the speakers at the tutorial.

The 3rd Edition of Advances in Mathematics of Communications has been published. This journal is jointly published by the American Institute of Mathematical Sciences and Shandong University (China). The Editor in Chief is of this journal is Dr. Marcus Greferath (CSI). Further members of the editorial board are Prof. Patrick Fitzerpatrick (CSI) and Dr. Eimear Byrne (CSI).

Preceding ECC 2007 on September 3rd and 4th a Summer School will hosted by CSI on Elliptic and Hyperelliptic Curve Cryptography. This tutorial is being organised by Dr. Tanja Lange from the Technische Universiteit of Eindhoven and the guest lecturers are Daniel J. Bernstein (University of Illinois at Chicago), Peter Birkner (Technische Universiteit Eindhoven), Isabelle Déchène (University of Ottawa),Tanja Lange (Technische Universiteit Eindhoven) and Michael Scott (Dublin City University, Ireland).

CSI is hosting the 11th Workshop on Elliptic Curve Cryptography with more than 150 participants at University College Dublin Ireland from September 5th- 7th 2007. The conference is sponsored by: Intel, Certicom, Blakes and F.R. Kelly and Co. http://www.shannoninstitute.ie/conferences.htm

We are pleased to announce that Ralf Koetter (Technischen Universität München) and Scott Vanstone (Certicom) have kindly agreed to join the CSI International Advisory Board.

Laura Hitt began her post doctoral studies with Gary McGuire. She was previously a doctoral student at the University of Texas in Austin. Hernando Fernando and Vijaykumar Singh began their post doctoral and doctoral studies respectively with Pat Fitzpatrick.

Masters thesis submitted: “Constructing Elliptic Curves with Complex Multiplication for Cryptography” by Ursula Finnegan, supervisor Gary McGuire (CSI).

August 7th - 20th 2007: Mike Scott (CSI) spent 2 weeks on a research visit to the University of Waterloo in Canada, working with Alfred Menezes and Darrel Hankerson on a significant new paper. During this time he met with Scott Vanstone CEO of Certicom, and other Certicom employees.
