December 9th 2008: Nigel Boston (CSI) gave a talk at the ESI (Vienna) Profinite Groups Conference. The title of this talk was Random p-groups.

December 4 & 5 2008: Marcus Greferath (CSI/UCD) visited Bernhard Bluemich and his research group in macromolecular chemistry at Aachen University in order to implement and test his concept of applying bent functions in scientific measurements.

November 28th - December 4th 2008: Fernando Hernando (UCC/CSI) attended the International School and Conference on Coding Theory which took place in CIMAT, Guanajuato, México. On December 2nd 2008, he gave a talk entitled:
Matrix Product Construction for Nested Codes and Quasi-Cyclic Codes.

November 25 2008: The following members of the Claude Shannon Institute attended the ECRYPT II kick-off meeting at Leuven, Belguim: Luis Dominguez, Naomi Benger, Manuel Charlemagne, Richard Moloney, Vijay Singh, Ratna Dutta and Ezekiel Kachisa.

Rob Granger (CSI) has been invited to speak at the Fields Cryptography Retrospective Meeting in May 2009.

November 17th 2008: Nigel Boston (CSI) attended the London-Paris Number Theory Seminar, IHP, Paris.

Fernando Hernando (CSI) was awarded a Short Term Travel Fellowship Supplement from the SFI to visit Prof. Tom Høholdt, Department of Mathematics, Technical University of Denmark, Copenhagen, Value €2011. Award reference: 06/MI/006 STTF 08. The title of his proposal was: About Decoding Quasi-Cyclic Codes.

November 23 – November 26 2008: Marcus Greferath (CSI/UCD) visited the University of Zurich for research discussions. While there he served as an external member on a doctoral panel, and also gave a talk on November 25 entitled: Monomial Extension of Isometriesnewline between {bf ${mathbb Z}_m$}-Linear Codes.

November 25 2008: Nigel Boston (CSI) gave his Stokes Professorship Inaugural Lecture. The title of his lecture was ‘Whatever can happen, will happen’.

November 7-22 2008: Fernando Hernando (CSI) visited Prof. Tom Høholdt, Department of Mathematics, Technical University of Denmark, Copenhagen. The title of his talk was: Double Error Correcting Cyclic Codes and APN Functions.
